If you want to see the next generation of Mississippi’s skilled workforce in action, don’t miss this year’s SkillsUSA Championship hosted by Build Mississippi.
On March 31 – April 1, more than 400 career and technical education (CTE) students from across the state will gather at the Mississippi Trade Mart in Jackson to compete in Mississippi’s largest youth craft competition.
Students will demonstrate their expertise in:
Carpentry
Electrical
HVAC
Masonry
Plumbing
Welding
State champions will advance to the national SkillsUSA competition in Atlanta this summer.
A Direct Path from Classroom to Career
This year’s event goes beyond competition. The SkillsUSA Championship will also feature a Job Fair and Career Expo, giving students the opportunity to connect directly with Mississippi employers actively hiring.
At the Career Expo, students can:
- Explore internships and apprenticeships
- Learn about registered apprenticeship programs
- Connect with contractors and manufacturers
- Apply for full-time job opportunities
- Network with hiring managers
With more than 100,000 craft professionals needed statewide, Mississippi’s construction and manufacturing industries are seeking skilled talent now. The Career Expo helps bridge the gap between CTE programs and real-world employment opportunities.
“These students represent the future of Mississippi’s infrastructure and economic growth,” said Brent Bean. “With workforce demand at an all-time high, this event creates a direct connection between education and employment.”
Mississippi continues to experience strong demand for skilled workers in construction and manufacturing. As infrastructure projects grow and experienced workers retire, workforce development has become a top priority.
Events like the SkillsUSA Championship showcase the strength of Mississippi’s CTE programs and highlight the real opportunities available in skilled trades careers.
